The 2013 Lansing Area Solar and Sustainable Homes and Businesses Tour will take place on Saturday, October 5, from 12-4 pm. Homes and businesses along the Michigan Avenue – Grand River Avenue Corridor that demonstrate sustainability, especially the use of solar energy, will be featured. This tour is part of the annual American Solar Energy Society Solar Home Tour, an event that takes place in communities across the country.

Homes with solar photovoltaic panels and solar hot water as well as homes with energy efficient features will be on the local tour. One of the East Lansing homes is LEED Platium certified. Other sites include the Lansing Board of Water & Light solar array, their electric vehicle charging carport at the Lansing City Market, solar and energy efficient features at Michigan Energy Options in East Lansing (LEED Platinum), solar and green roofs on the Michigan State University campus, and solar installations at Harris Nature Center in Okemos. The Meridian Fall 2013 Recycling Event will be held from 9 am – 2 pm at the Meridian Service Center/Nancy Moore Park, 2100 Gaylord C. Smith Drive, off of Okemos Road.

Lansing Board of Water and Light staff will be present at their Cedar Street Solar Array from 12-2 pm. The MSU Surplus Store will be open from 9-2 pm.
